Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Starting over sucks. When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring...until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up. And then he opened his mouth. Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot alien living next door marks me. You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don't kill him first, that is.
“This has been a stimulating visit. I’ll cherish it for a long time to come.” Okay. That was it. “You know, you’re right. How wrong of me to call you a douchebag. Because a douchebag is too nice of a word for you,” I said, smiling sweetly. “You’re a dickhead.” “A dickhead?” he repeated. “How charming.” I flipped him off. – Page 10
When 17-year old Katy Swartz, a book-blogger by heart, and her mother move to West Virginia, three years after her father’s death, she isn’t too happy about this. But things quickly change. After her first encounter with him, she knows that there will come a time when she kills him even if he is too hot. But he is a jerk and always has to remember her of that. But then there’s Dee. She’s the sister of Dickhead-Daemon and totally eager of making friends with Katy. The two of them are totally getting along but when creepy things are starting to happen around them it seems like Katy needs to be with Daemon and this is everything she never wanted but always needed…
“Besides them and Dee, what other friends do you have?” I cut him a death look. “I have other friends.” “Yeah, name one.” Dammit. He called my bluff. “Fine. Whatever.” – Page 217
I’ve never read an alien-book before but when I first saw this at Sasha’s a book utopia I just needed to get this damn book. And I never got disappointed. This sci-fi novel made me addicted and I just read this whole thing in about three days, which is totally good for me, having the fact that I’m German.
I really liked the story, even if I basically knew what would happen after reading the blurb. And I liked the relationship between Katy and Daemon because their dialogues always made me laugh. I totally adored Dee and all the other characters. The story never got cheesy and always has been diversified.
So, I give Jennifer L. Armentrout 5 of 5 stars for her beginning of the Lux-series and by the way, I totally ship Kaemon ;D
They launched into another discussion about what was more important: locking me up somewhere, which didn’t make sense because my light could be seen through anything, or trying to figure out a way to make the trace fade other than killing me. And I seriously think Andrew believed that was a valid consideration. Asshole. – Page 299
